As part of its efforts to elevate Filipino talent and culture internationally, the Philippine Consulate General in New York has partnered with Filipino organization Manila to Manhattan in organizing the New York press conference for FILIPINXT. Held at the Philippine Center New York on 05 April, the event marked a milestone in promoting the richness of Filipino creative industries to a worldwide audience.
FILIPINXT: A New Era of Philippine Fashion is envisioned as a platform for Filipino fashion designers to showcase their talent to the international market by staging a runway show in New York, one of the world’s fashion capitals. Spearheaded by Filipino fashion designer Bessie Besana and Filipino-American entrepreneur Rob Mallari-D’Auria, this initiative seeks to bridge Filipino creativity with international opportunities, emphasizing the Philippines’ role as a burgeoning hub for fashion and art.
During the press conference, the two founders of FILIPINXT shared their inspiration and vision with the global community. Mr. Mallari-D’Auria noted that there has never been a dedicated Filipino American Fashion Week in New York, and he hopes that FILIPINXT will serve as a blueprint or playbook for other designers or creatives to replicate. On the other hand, Mr. Besana anticipates that FILIPINXT will pave the way for the next Josie Natori and Monique Lhuillier, two Filipino designers who have successfully launched their respective fashion careers in New York.
Consul General Senen T. Mangalile said in his remarks, “Our collaboration (with Manila to Manhattan) highlights our collective ambition to not only spotlight Filipino artistry and craftsmanship but also to support and nurture it, ensuring it finds its rightful place on the global stage.”
Scheduled for 05 May at the prestigious 4W 43 Building in New York City, FILIPINXT will feature the creations of designers Bessie Besana, Veejay Floresca, Wilson Limon, and Michael Leyva.
